Elm long description

Elm is a chat app built for the real world.
Start a chat, pin it to a place, and invite the people who matter — or share it publicly for your whole neighborhood or travel community to discover. Elm is a location based chat app that keeps your conversations connected to where they actually happen.
Whether you're planning a weekend trip or exploring a new city — Elm's built-in trip organizer and route planner keep everything organized in one place.
What you can do with Elm:
Geofenced Chat — Create a location based chat pinned to any spot on the map. Your conversation is always anchored to a real place.
Route Builder — Design and share routes for road trips, city walks, or off-road adventures. Add stops, markers, and transport modes with Elm's powerful route builder.
Add Events to Your Chat — Attach a location or route to any conversation so your group always knows the plan.
You Control Who Sees It — Keep it private, invite-only for your group, or open it to the public.
uTrip — Your Built-in Trip Organizer — Bring all your chats, routes, and events into one clean route planner and trip plan.
Navigate the world your neighbors know.

Origin

Hi, my name is Red. I'm the creator of this app.
Elm came from my frustration when using Google Maps dynamic routing because its algorithm often gave me either road that is too narrow for car to drive or path that is too quiet and scary to walk. So back then, I built an app with the ability to save routing results so I can just choose one of them later.
It first came as an app named "Where I Should Go Now" for iOS around 2013, which I then rebuilt for Android as "Lungo" ("Going somewhere" in Javanese) around 2015.
Then around 2020, I built Elm. This time, I built an app that allows users to draw their own routes and have conversations with others. Elm eventually became an app that enables users to chat and create events on the map.
Elm uses Phantasm, a package that I have been developing from the start which enables creation of shapes above a map.
